He tries to remember but it's gone, extinguished as the day behind, the sense of promise, of the deliverance his soul always found in the unyielding simplicity of this domain. Something sublime. The threshold of his journeys east. Now - nothing.
Two hours out the plane levels off into a throb of gentle turbulence. The hum of engines takes over as a movie begins.
Far below in the broad darkness, bantam points of light are boats in route somewhere near the last curl of Nova Scotia.
