excerpt from novel:

The midnight is slow and porous. It continues on and on in order to absorb the dreams of the seaport's inhabitants...The silver light of the full moon is almost as strong as daylight, only slightly diffused by the air's density. Very little color is reflected through its muted aluminum cast. The silence is accentuated by the ringing of distant buoys in the outer reaches of the harbor, sounding not unlike tuned meditation bowls of Zen Buddhists...Sheets, hanging in the deep cavity between the buildings, dance gently.
